Accent Core no longer features in the Couch Warriors line up. It has been replaced by Blazblue on PS3 - Zan, 12 of August 2009.

What is Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core?
Guilty Gear itself is a 2D fighting game of which Accent Core is simply the latest version. While the series is quite popular in Japanese competitive circles in arcades, it has a small but dedicated following here in Melbourne where we play the PS2 version.

Why the PS2 version, isn't there a local Wii version?
Despite new generation consoles, PS2 is still the favoured console for 2D fighters when possible because of a lot of players preference for arcade stick controllers. In addition, Guilty Gear has had a spotty history getting localised ports of the game in Australia. While there exists a Wii and an X-Box port of the game, PS2 is the only one to get every version to come out in Japan and most in the US. For these reasons we choose to import rather than do with what we have here.

What makes Guilty Gear special, that Couch Warriors chose it in it's lineup?
Guilty Gear was one of the proposed initial three games, and Couch Warriors mantra is very much aligned to the sort of support that Guilty Gear needed. There was an existing group of players who had no platform with which to compete against others in this game, which of course like all good fighters is the motivation for playing it. Guilty Gear has a very long learning curve which, while can be intimidating to those starting out, is very rewarding to players as they continue to improve and challenge others. The other most obvious reason, is that it has next to no arcade presence here in Melbourne, thus no where public for competitors to play.

What controllers do we use?
For the most part it is either PS2 compatible arcade sticks of the dual shock. Most people already have their preference, and should you have an adapter with another controller that you want to use then we're cool with that. If you have no real preference and you are just starting out, then I fully encourage using the arcade stick as it's likely to be used across all platforms where we choose to play these games.

What competitions are held for this game?
The standard tournament format used for Accent Core is the double elimination method, which is basically a knockout format where each competitor is eliminated when they have lost two games, effectively giving everyone a second chance. There is a point scoring system associated with each tournament which goes toward deciding the seasonal winner and seeding the big finale at the end of the season. Currently Loki runs this competition with aid from a few veteran players like Akai and Batasan.

Also popular in the last few rounds, and when we have time is the game Armies. Armies takes the winner and runner up for the tournament and makes them captain where they choose from people who participated in the tournament, and they play and knockout people from the other army in the reverse order that they were picked. It gives newer players the chance to play against people of similar skill and the veterans to get behind them, give them encouragement to help their team win.

Where can I learn more about this game
There are a few useful topics on Accent Core on our forums here. Alternatively you can talk to regulars on our IRC channel at irc.mergo.net in #couchwarriors.
The most extensive source of information in English is at Dust Loop, and the guides are particularly useful. I recommend you ease yourself into playing the game for a while. Trying to learn everything while just starting out is going to overwhelm the new comer. The best I can give is find a character you like, play around and practise!
