Organising a booking for venue in CBD at last. Serious hype. We'll announce the date and exact location once we've nailed it down.

Too good.
More details coming soon, but let's just say that if the ball was in motion before, we just smashed it for six today.

Excited about BAM!  That said, before too many threads are started, would it be better to archive all of the 2009 threads into their own subforum and rename this the BAM 2010 forum?

I would love to but unfortunately this version of the forum software doesn't support subforums. Either I'll nuke out a bunch of threads, or simply rename them to [2009] or something soon. But a good suggestion either way. Smiley

Some Tekken 6 Hype. I've spoken to some Sydney players and we'll be having some players come down. I'm expecting around 5 - 10 come down for the tourney. They also confirmed that soem SF players will be coming down too. It's really iffy with the Brissy guys as they are further away but i'm still fighting to get them down.

Just thought i'd give a bit of an update.

Oh and I alost forgot. I've contacted some places in regards to borrowing/leasing a Tekken 6 cabinet as there has been a big backlash in the Tekken community, not only in melb but in Sydney too. Some went so far as to say they will not attend if it's on console so i've been trying my hardest to get a cabinet for them.
There is also a few threads on other boards for getting a cabinet for OHN as people won't show up for console.

Out of curiosity why is there all this hate for the console version? What are the differences between arcade and console?

I can see the thread about OHN on tekken zaibatsu, and I can see what you mean.  Is there any legitimate claim that the console versions are not as good?  It's the first I've heard of it.  To be honest, I think that the fact that the game has been around for nearly a couple of years (expansion notwithstanding) in arcades only, coupled with the fact that consoles meant no new blood means that arcade only is practically cannon to the community.

I still really can't condone the effect that you will be putting yourself through to pull this off.  I mean if you can manage it with reasonable effort and cost then great, but from what I understand OHN have to go through to do this, I'm really not optimistic.  That is after considering that the communities are much better connected to their arcade operators than we are.

IMHO bowing to the demands for Arcade or people won't turn up is setting a bad precedent; we need people to play on console and support their respective games.  Prize support and bragging rights should be enough to overcome the "purity" of playing on arcade vs console.  Understandable that there is a core Tekken community who prefer arcade, but to the degree of refusing to come to a huge tournament?  There are tons of console only players out there worth appealing to who can take the place and prizes of those players.

The arcade issue is always a difficult one. Of all games Tekken really has a reason for an arcade bias since it was out for so long at the arcade before it hit consoles and it gained most of it's following for T6 during that phase.
That said, arcade tournaments are quickly becoming a thing of the past, it's simply not practical anymore for most countries and it's always been a "barely scraped by" matter in Australia.

Rame, I think it's great that you're going to this effort for the T6 community, but if it's not going to be practical, and if you're not going to be able to run the whole tournament on cabs then don't feel disheartened. It'd be fantastic if we could all run arcade tournaments, but the reality these days is that it's simply no longer a viable option for most.

Either way, if you make the best of whatever situation we end up with, I'm sure the community will get behind that and the event will be very successful, regardless of the backlash.
People like the bitch and moan when they think they have a choice, everyone likes to be a spoiled child once in a while, but that doesn't change the reality that you can't always get what you want. If the community wants to support their scene at all, sometimes they have to make sacrifices.

You'll notice that on top of the game clock on the console version, the game version number is written there.

There have been talk of an upcoming balance patch sometime and stuff as well, so we're just clarifying which version of the game we're playing.

Currently at the time of writing, version 1.01 is the newest and it's basically arcade version + Makoto DLC character.
