Today, we take a break from our usual programming to bring you a very special episode- Daichi Dissects!

Daichi Akahoshi, hailing from Japan, is Melbourne’s resident Magneto master and Vergil abuser. He possesses a keen and incredibly scientific mind for the game of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. In this episode he sits down with us to analyse the games and play-styles of various Marvel players in Australia. From young up and comers, students of the game, and even how Ali isn’t actually random, he breaks it all down for us in his own unique and humorous way. The players covered in this episode are:

Hope you guys like this special edition of Daichi Dissects! Just in time for the FGC major in the Marvel state itself- Queensland’s ButtonSmash (from the 15th – 16th of March).

Community: The Australian FGC Episode 03 Michael “Cactus” Ashmore

cact

The third episode of Community features Michael “Cactus” Ashmore. A long time mainstay in the Melbourne FGC, the Golden Child is mild-mannered in demeanour but packs a nasty far standing fierce. He’s a strangely modest individual, scratching his beard when he beats your ass with his Dhalsim and giggling good-humouredly when you hit him with something stupid. We learn more about how he got into the scene, why he loves travelling for interstate FGC events and arcade tournaments, and how he’d knock you out with a right old left!

Hope you guys like it!

Also, if you’re in Queensland this weekend be sure to check out their major: Buttonsmash! http://www.button-smash.com/

Community: The Australian FGC E02 Dan “DisasterFX” Richards

danrichardsscreenshot

Hi guys, the second episode is up featuring Dan “DisasterFX” Richards. Formerly a Smash player, he’s become a champion of the lesser popular games in the scene such as Injustice and SFxTekken. He’s become a great guy to have on the CouchWarriors board, and proof that everyone can become a great and invaluable contributor to your local community if you step up to the challenge.

Hope you guys like this episode!

Community: The Australian FGC Episode 01: Mike “The TV” Skolnik

http://dustycartridge.com/videos/community-australian-fgc-episode-01-mike-tv-skolnik/

Communitye01

Hi guys this is my new video series for Dusty Cartridge. I originally intended to do some player profiles as pre-BAM media, but I was lying in bed thinking one day…

Generally in Fighting Game Community (FGC) media you see the top players get most of the camera time, but in my eyes, a community is not simply made up of top players.

A community consists of so many different kinds of people. Intellectuals, staunch regulars, streamers, tournament organisers, anime lovers, commentators, retro game enthusiasts and those dudes that go 0-2 and keep coming back(me). Everybody is an equally important part of our community, without these guys there wouldn’t be a community for the top players to be the faces of.

I wanted to do these 5-10 minute player profiles (Mike’s one went quite long, future eps will be shorter) to shine some spotlight on these less heralded guys, and to also let the greater public know about all the different personalities and figures we have in our local FGC.

I wanted Mike The TV as the first guest because he’s a game academic, a commentator and has a unique perspective on the scene- having a bit of an e-sports background.

Hope you guys like the series!

A Brief History of CCH

CCH was originally founded by Collingwood resident and the inventor of the crossup tatsu, Chris Dang, whom I will now respectfully refer to as the Founder. Originally named Collingwood Club House, CCH has been known as Chris’ Club House for years now as a homage to its original founder who saw the need in the community for a console casuals meetup with the divide between Vanilla SFIV console and arcade editions. CCH ran on Fridays from 6PM till late into the wee mornings, and The Founder would always be there with his setups and sticks. Many Melbourne traditions were born from this meetup, such as CPU moneymatches!

Since then CCH has gone from strength to strength, and the relaxed atmosphere of the meetup introduced many new faces to the Melbourne FGC that have since become staunch regulars and top players such as Kevin “Burnout” Kim, Shadowfox and many more. I took over the reins in February 2011 from The Founder (who retired from the FGC in 2011 to be a family man) and together with Ali from Shadowloo, and reliable dudes like Andrew “Vitriol”, Daniel “Spoony” Finegan, Burnout and Peter “Syntax” Evans we ran CCH for a few years before I decided to shut it down in August 2012 with the opening of Shadowlogic over in Footscray.

Now CCH is back in 2014 with the recent shutdown of Shadowlogic for their impending move, and I personally hope we can attract more new players to our scene, level up together and have fun.

Hope to see you guys there!
