CouchWarriors and Twitch extend esports partnership with 2018-19 Fighting Game Ranking Season: BAM Path to EVO
Thursday, 27th September – CouchWarriors and Twitch TV have announced BAM Path To EVO, a qualifying path for ANZ fighting game esports players across multiple local and upcoming online events. The series, featured front page of #1 gaming streaming platform Twitch TV, starts as of this month. Points earned will be tallied on a combined league ladder, leading to the national championships at BAM (Battle Arena Melbourne). From there, champions in three games will go on to EVO World Championships in 2019.
This new phase of the esports partnership will support ongoing events across the ANZ fighting game community. Players at monthly CouchWarriors, Ozhadou and Standing Fierce events around the region will be able to earn points to see who is performing best at local tournaments, while event streams feature on the front page of live streaming platform, Twitch.TV
Players in Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, and Super Smash Bros 4 WiiU will each earn points tallied on a shared leaderboard at BAMPathToEVO.com.au, and the top scorers will receive travel and a qualifier opportunity at BAM11 in May, 2019. The top ANZ player at BAM in each game, will once again travel to Las Vegas, USA, to participate in the EVO World Championships!
The first phase of the partnership began in May at Australia’s largest Fighting game major, BAM. Three champions then played for Australia at EVO. Now, the pathway is now open to more players around Australia and New Zealand, starting this month.
National Ladder and Community Partners
The centralised ladder has launched on BAMPathToEVO.com.au and will grow in features as event results roll in. For more information on the ranking points system, visit https://www.couchwarriors.org/bam-path-to-evo-with-twitch/
The first three states to join the series with their regular events will be in Victoria and Queensland through CouchWarriors, Sydney through Ozhadou, and New Zealand through Standing Fierce.
Next events and where to watch
Each regional points champion will be provided travel and entry into BAM11!
Online tournaments each month
In addition to the local community events, further points are available for participants in one online tournament each month per game. More details of each tournament and how to sign up will be shared on couchwarriors.org/bam-path-to-evo-with-twitch/ and BAMPathToEVO.com.au very soon.
Events for everyone
Players in other fighting games will still earn local ranking points. So if you love playing more than SFV, Tekken and Smash 4, players are always encouraged to build their local scenes by playing all games they would like to learn or compete in.

Tuesday September 4, 2018 – CouchWarriors today announced it will be working with the Brisbane and Gold Coast fighting game communities to support growth of events for the Queensland scene. Monthly ranking events begin this month, and the combined team will launch a new major esports event in 2019.
Primarily Melbourne based, CouchWarriors host a successful monthly ranking event series, events management services at gaming conventions, and Australia’s largest fighting game (FGC) event with the globally recognised Battle Arena Melbourne (BAM – See Infographic).
After a request from QLD based TeamSolid and Checkpoint Esports, with regular venue support from QUT, CouchWarriors brings its expertise, name and resources to join forces and integrate with existing organisers in Queensland. The former TeamSolid will now run events as CouchWarriors QLD.
The aim of joining these communities is to strengthen the events offered in Brisbane and Gold Coast, and for the fighting game scene Australia wide.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with CW during BAM in the past few years, and I am happy to announce that Queensland is finally back on the map with this team up.” said Brisbane based Tom Ho of TeamSolid.
Starting September 29 at QUT, CouchWarriors QLD Ranking Battles will occur monthly. The events will join CouchWarriors Melbourne and Ozhadou’s Sydney YSB events as state destinations for players to gather, practice, and compete.
The events will also be part of the upcoming, Twitch powered BAM Path to EVO series. At each of these events every month, players in Street Fighter V, Tekken and Super Smash Bros 4 will earn points leading to an international qualifier at BAM 2019.
Ellis Johnson, QLD Smash Bros event organiser, added “Together with Couchwarriors, QLD really has an opportunity to improve and showcase their talent on the national stage. I’m really excited to be a part of and see the quality events that are going to result from CouchWarriors’ inclusion in our Sunshine state.”
Players in every fighting game at QLD Ranking Battles will also earn local ranking points. As with all CouchWarriors and FGC monthly events, all players are encouraged to build their local scenes by playing in any games they would like to learn or compete in.
Finally, the combined organisation will work together on BAM, and develop a new Queensland based FGC major to take place in 2019, filling a vacant spot in the Australian fighting game calendar. More details on the new event will be announced later this year.
Ongoing events will partner with venues at QUT Esports in Brisbane, and Checkpoint Esports Bar in the Gold Coast. Bar owner Luke Mengler, in support of the QLD fighting game scene, stated:
“Checkpoint is excited to partner with CouchWarriors to help expand the Queensland grass roots scene into professionally run tournaments and help the community grow and provide better prizes and competitions that has never been provided before in Queensland.
We are also excited to help bring back a FGC major event to showcase the local talent against our interstate and international rivals.”
